”JAPAN BRAND Development Assistance Program 2010” was started by the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in the 2004 fiscal year. Its aim is to support projects from various places in order to encourage and promote regional produce onto the Japanese and overseas markets.
The Shizuoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry entrusted this business as an operating body in the 2007 fiscal year. We took this opportunity to restructure the Shizuoka tea business, for example, by producing a new brand, opening up local opportunities for producers and dealers, and to promote joint projects with exporters within and without the community.
Shizuoka Prefecture has a perfect environment for tea cultivation with its unique topology and the mile climate, with about 40 percent of all tea production in Japan and about 70 percent of tea distribution. This area is known as the top tea area, ”Chadokoro” of Japan both in quality and quantity.
However, the future of the tea industry is not secure due to decreases of both Aracha production and processed tea shipment. The export of Japanese green tea to the EU has also been decreased since their tolerance of pesticide residue was drastically reduced in September, 1999. Despite this setback, the popularity of green tea has nevertheless risen along with the current trend for Japanese food and health products in the European markets.
We have advertised Shizuoka green tea with the theme”Shizuoka Green Tea to the European Market!” for four years from the 2007 to 2011 fiscal years. We conducted a market study in Europe to estimate the sales potential of the commodity, to inspect the agriculture chemical requirements, and to establish a quality standard for producing tea leaves that conforms to the accepted European pesticide residue level.
Through this program, we will continue our efforts to establish a delivery market in Europe, develop further products, and promote the”Chasho” of tea producing wholesalers that make original Shizuoka tea.
On this site, we hope to introduce the items developed through this program along with other information about Shizuoka tea. We will also answer any inquiries concerning our items. We hope that people in Europe as well as people all over the world will have a chance to know and enjoy our”Shizuoka tea.”
